North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics

1998-2000

NCSSMI attended NCSSM, a public, residential high school where students study a specialized curriculum emphasizing science and mathematics—the first school of its kind. This approach was built on the premise that regions which invest in the creation of human and intellectual capital will receive global economic returns, the key to success in a worldwide economy.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Took discrete math and number theory courses on par with standard undergraduate college courses.
  • Showed leadership skills through involvement with the Student Body Government
  • Member of the North Caroling State Mathematics Team.
  • Member of the NCSSM Wrestling Team.

Carnegie Mellon University

2000-2004

Carnegie Mellon My undergraduate education was at Carnegie Mellon University, where I earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics and a second B.S. degree in Computer Science. Recognized for its world-class arts and technology programs, collaboration across disciplines and innovative leadership in education, Carnegie Mellon is consistently a top-ranked university.

Key Activities:

  • Member of the CMU Rowing Club throughout college. I was the men’s team captain my sophomore year and the club vice-president my junior year.
  • Took over 450 credits worth of classes in the four-year span, whereas the normal amount needed for graduation is 360.
  • Took majority graduate-level courses in mathematics and computer science in my junior and senior years.
  • Boasted a 3.8 GPA overall.
  • Became involved in undergraduate research projects, specifically an 18-month project to undertake the formalization of the Prime Number Theorem.

2004-2009

Rutgers UniversityFor my graduate studies I attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. I was a graduate student in their world-renown Department of Mathematics. My primary research interests were in combinatorics, dynamic graph theory, and automated discovery.
